Andreas Kuechline, 1755-1826

Who was this Andreas? This question is, and may remain, a Kichline family mystery.

Ruth E. Willis Hansel says that this Andreas is buried in Shoenersville Churchyard, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. As yet, there is no proof that Andrew Kichline (1776-1856) was, in fact, a son of Andreas (1755-1826).

Dale Berger states: "I'm reasonably certain at this point that my Andreas was not a son of one of the three brothers. The burial record of Rev. Becker, who served Christ Church at Shoenersville in Hanover Twp. (now in Lehigh County, PA), shows that Andreas Kuchlein of Hanover Twp. died on 29 September 1826 at the age of 71 years, 3 months, and 3 days and that he was buried in Christ Church cemetery. Subtracting his age at death from his date of death gives his date of birth as 26 June 1755. These dates do not "fit" Peter's son Andrew nor Karl's son Andrew." --letter dated 17 March 1996.

The death and burial of Andreas Kuechlein was reported by Rev. Jacob C. Becker, who served congregations at Christ Church, Shoenersville, in Hanover Twp., Lehigh Co. and at Zion (Stone) Church, Kreidersville, in Allen Twp., Northampton Co. Rev. Becker did not record Andreas's actual burial location. However, since other members of this same family are buried at Shoenersville, Andreas was most likely buried there also. His tombstone has never been found.

Andreas may have had a daughter, Barbara, who appeared as a sponsor at a baptism at Christ Church, Shoenersville, in April of 1803. She was unmarried at that time. The church baptismal shows her name as "Barbara Kichlen".

Andreas has not been located in the 1790 census and may have arrived in Northampton County after that date.
