"The Itchy Hat"
Chuck clearly remembers this event, but didn't know the point was to take pictures.
He begged Mom and Dad to let him take off the Itchy Hat!

This would have been her first visit to the new house.

I'm sure Carol was commenting on the threat of bad weather here.
She loved to act out a scene for the camera, as if it were movie film.
Perhaps it was to get us more involved in the photo;
perhaps it was because she yearned to be an actress.

Dad made these two candles. Each had an electric light at the top surrounded by
a larger golden flame. The candle sticks were red and the buckets at the bottom
were gold and filled with stones. These graced our front porch every year
through at least the 1970's.

(?). H. Cornell's new house, 5-17-52 Holly Springs, N.C.
Harry Cornell was the husband of my father's sister, Ruth.
I remember a lot about this house in later years. There was a river in the back (where I caught my first fish as well)
and the phone had no dial; you talked to the operator directly. They had a black lab the size of a horse.
There was a canoe with a Jolly Roger there that looked just like the one pictured earlier on Lake Canandagua.
A truly beautiful spot.

Vacation - Aug. 9, 1952
The Phillips had a farm outside town and were Carol and Andy Anderson's good friends.
I believe the Phillips are at the left; his name was Ted, I don't recall hers.
Andy (Irving Anderson) is standing behind them. Eleanor is foremost on the left,
Kate (Kathryn Helmer) is farthest, I believe that's Carol beside her.
It would be nice to identify the others in the picture; I'm sure the names are familiar.

The Lincoln Logs! These were a family treasure for a couple of decades to come.
I think I remember hearing that they were originally Robert Pohill's.
Legos are fine, but cannot be reduced to rubble by a prolonged bombardment,
which Chuck and I spend hundreds of hours doing together over the years.

Chuck and Harvey Bender on
"Glying Flash" from Uncle Irving
Anderson.
Harvey lived across the street and two houses to the right.
The "Flying Flash" was the finest wagon ever made. The handle could be
detached and hooked to the front end for pulling like a regular wagon,
or inserted in the back where it acted like a stearing wheel.
